  1. Be aware of the signs of stress:Increased irritability
    • Decreased concentration
    • Denying or feeling numb
    • Intense feelings and
    • Dreams about the traumas
  2. Don’t go it alone:
    • Get support by talking to others in your team
    • Ask for support from your supervisor – engage in debrief/supervision with your manager
    • Access Employee Assistance Program
  3. Be compassionate about having strong reactions to a child’s family’s trauma
  4. Seek help with your own traumas, if required. Seek counseling with a professional who is knowledgeable about trauma
  5. Find time to self-reflect and seek the opportunity for team reflection and learning
  6. Refer to your organisation’s safety procedures
