As a result of some funding from Department of Health & Human Services, our team have been consulting with local service providers, people with dementia and their carers. Their voices have been heard loud and clear, so we have created a resource for consumers and their carers that is local, easy to read, succinct and practical.
The Central Victorian Dementia Network (service providers) and the Woodend Lifestyle Carers Support Group all contributed to this project, and it became clear early on that a local resource was needed for those newly diagnosed, or even still-to-be diagnosed to help them negotiate the service system and supports available.
Alzheimer’s Australia is represented on the Central Victorian Dementia Network and along with their “The Dementia Guide”, we will distribute the local flyers to GP Clinics, Community Health services, Shire Councils and hospitals over the coming months.
In addition to the creation of the resource, we will be submitting a report to the DHHS outlining some recommendations on improving the coordination of services for people with dementia and their carers.
